In order to stay healthy and happy this summer, I carry a few things with me at all times. These are my summer essentials, especially with the heat that’s been hitting so hard. I thought I would share these things that keep me safe and help me enjoy every minute of my vacation time!
Yes. Of course I must start with sunscreen. No matter what skin tone you are, sunscreen should be a part of your daily regimen. Not only does it protect you from the sun’s harmful UV rays, but it also slows down the rate of skin aging. Sunscreen will keep your skin glowing and young. I keep a bottle of sunscreen with me just in case I go outside. However, I also apply a face lotion with SPF every morning. Your face and neck are show signs of aging first among other parts of your body, so I like to make sure they are always protected. If you apply makeup every day, there are many foundation options with SPF!
My favorite essential! Water is so important in the summer to keep yourself hydrated. I carry my 25 oz. water bottle with me literally everywhere. Ever since I purchased a larger water bottle, I realized I was drinking so much more water than usual. I even use my water bottle in my house! It carries so much water so I feel like I can drink as much as I want without running out. A lot of the time I’m too lazy to get up to fill a glass of water but with a bottle I don’t have an excuse. I also have plenty of water when I’m out and about running errands. I recommend getting an insulated bottle so your water will stay cold all summer long. The last thing you want this summer is getting sick because of the heat, so make sure you invest in a reliable and safe water bottle.
I, too, love letting my hair down and rocking my natural wavy hair during the summertime. However, you never know what direction the weather will go in as you spend your time outside. You don’t need to be like me and keep five on your wrist, but at least two hair ties would suffice just in case the heat gets to you or the humidity makes your hair stick up! Five hair ties is a bit extreme, but a plus is that I can always save a friend in need! I definitely do not want my mane getting out of control in this #hotgirlsummer.
I think I have three different chapsticks in my bag right now. I am constantly applying chapstick this summer to make sure my lips are hydrated. Of course all my chapsticks have SPF. A trick my doctor told me is to apply a thin layer of water on your lips before applying chapstick so that the product is absorbed into your skin better. Chapstick brings out the natural glow of your lips so you don’t need to wear any other lip products and stay natural this summer!
I have been getting more hungry this season compared to before since I’m more active in the warm weather and the heat drains my energy faster. That’s why I always keep cut fruit with me in a Ziploc bag. My favorite go-to fruits have been oranges and apples. Grapes and bananas are also great options. They are very easy to cut/peel and are not too messy when eating. The juice from the fruit also keeps me hydrated! Instead of going to grab an energy bar that filled with carbs and added sugars, cut some fruit which contain natural sugars and essential nutrients. I have an apple cutter which takes me less than 10 seconds to cut apple slices. If you are not great with knives I highly recommend getting one.
You probably thought this post was going to include healthy things. Yes, one of my summer essentials is ice cream. I shamelessly eat ice cream everyday. Of course you should stay healthy this summer but it’s okay to have some cheat days. Enjoy sweet treats while you’re young. Summertime brings all the amazing desserts at fairs and the ice cream trucks around neighborhoods. As long as you remain active this summer, go ahead and enjoy some sugary snacks!
